North Dakota News Cooperative (NDNC) Republishing Policy
The North Dakota News Cooperative (NDNC) exists to support local journalism across North Dakota by providing high-quality, nonpartisan reporting that news organizations can publish at no cost.
Permission to Republish
NDNC articles are intended for republication by newspapers, websites, newsletters, and other media outlets. You may republish NDNC content in full or in part, provided the requirements below are met.
Required Attribution
All republished NDNC content must include clear attribution. Attribution should appear at the top of the story and must include:
- The reporter’s name, and
- North Dakota News Cooperative

Online Publishing Requirements
If an NDNC story is republished online, the outlet must:
- Include a live link to the original story on the NDNC website, and
- Ensure the link is clearly visible within the article or attribution line.
The link should point directly to the original NDNC article, not the NDNC homepage.
Print Publishing
For print publications, no link is required. Proper attribution, as outlined above, is sufficient.
Editing and Headline Changes
- Minor edits for style, length, or clarity are permitted.
- Headlines may be changed to fit outlet style.
- The meaning, facts, and context of the story must not be altered.
Substantive edits, additions, or rewrites that change the intent or conclusions of the reporting are not permitted.
Photos, Graphics, and Multimedia
Photos, graphics, and other multimedia produced by NDNC may be republished. Separate credit lines must be preserved.
Organizational Description
When republishing NDNC content, publications are encouraged to include the following organizational description at the end of the story:
The North Dakota News Cooperative is a nonprofit news organization providing reliable and independent reporting on issues and events that impact the lives of North Dakotans. The organization increases the public’s access to quality journalism and advances news literacy across the state. You can learn more online at newscoopnd.org.
Prohibited Uses
NDNC content may not be:
- Used for advertising or commercial endorsement
- Altered in a way that misrepresents the reporting
- Republished without attribution
